Russian Elina Avanesyan reached the quarter-finals of the San Luis Potosi Open by winning against Cypriot Raluka Serban 6-4, 6-1 on Wednesday evening.
Avanesyan, ranked No 165, will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Leolia Jeanjean and Colombian wildcard Emiliana Arango next.
Ahead of her victory, the 20-year-old Russian defeated Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl, the No 4 seed (6-4, 7-5).
Serban, ranked No 161, edged out Canadian Carol Zhao (4-6, 7-5, 7-5) in the previous round.
