Second seed Bencic downs Vekic to reach semi-finals in Tallinn

Swiss Belinda Bencic, the second seed, moved into the semi-finals of the Tallinn Open by winning against Croat Donna Vekic 6-4, 6-1 at the Forus Tennis Centre on Friday night.

Bencic, ranked No 14, will face Czech Barbora Krejcikova, the No 7 seed, who beat Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 3 seed, next.

The Swiss defeated Estonian wildcard Elena Malygina (6-0, 6-2) and qualifier Katie Boulter (6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-3) ahead of her victory.

In the previous rounds, Vekic, ranked No 85, beat Estonian wildcard Maileen Nuudi (6-2, 6-0) and Chinese Shuai Zhang, the No 8 seed (6-2, 6-4).
