Hungary’s Jani reaches first final at Tiriac Foundation Trophy

Hungarian Reka Luca Jani edged out Belgian Maryna Zanevska 7-5, 7-6 (6) to advance to the final of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy on Saturday, her first WTA Tour final.

Jani, ranked No 114, will face Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, the second seed, who beat veteran Italian Sara Errani in her semi-final.

The Hungarian defeated Italian Nuria Brancaccio (6-3, 6-3), Swiss Simona Waltert (6-4, 2-6, 6-1) and No 6 seed Panna Udvardy (0-6, 6-4, 7-5) ahead of her victory.

Earlier in the tournament, Zanevska, ranked No 100, won against Italian Lucia Bronzetti, the No 4 seed (6-1, 6-0), Russian Erika Andreeva (6-4, 6-3) and Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the No 5 seed (6-1, 6-4).
