Transylvania Open: Masarova breaks Romanian hearts with win over Bogdan

Spaniard Rebeka Masarova, the No 4 seed, moved into the semi-finals of the Transylvania Open by winning against Romanian Ana Bogdan, the No 5 seed, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3 at the BTarena in Cluj-Napoca on Friday evening.

Masarova, ranked No 67, will play Romanian wildcard Elena-Gabriela Ruse next.

In the previous rounds of the Cluj-Napoca tournament, the Spaniard beat German Noma Noha Akugue (6-4, 6-0) and Romanian wildcard Miriam Bulgaru (3-6, 7-6 (8), 6-0).

Bogdan, ranked No 73, defeated Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (6-4, 6-1) and edged out wildcard Nikola Bartunkova (4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5) earlier in the tournament.
