WTA Auckland: Wang produces comeback to beat Perry and reach semis

China’s Xiyu Wang reached the last four of the Auckland Open by edging out Frenchwoman Diane Parry 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-4 at the ASB Tennis Arena on Friday.
Wang came from a set and a break down in the second set to push the match into a decider; then trailed 4-1 in the third set before coming back to complete the victory in three hours and eight minutes.
Wang, ranked No 71, will face the winner of the match between No 5 seed Marie Bouzkova and Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the second seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the 22-year-old Wang edged out Romanian Jaqueline Cristian (6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (3)) and No 6 seed Xinyu Wang (6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (2)).
Parry, ranked No 76, won against American Emina Bektas (6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-3) and Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, the No 3 seed (2-6, 6-4, 6-1) earlier in the week.
