German Yannick Hanfmann moved into the last 4 of the Generali Open by edging out Austrian Dominic Thiem 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at Kitzbühel Tennis Club on Thursday.
Hanfmann, ranked No 140, will play the winner of the match between Austrian wildcard Filip Misolic and Serb Dusan Lajovic next.
In the previous rounds of the Kitzbuhel, the German benefited from the abandonment of Austrian qualifier Gerald Melzer (6-4, 1-1) and edged out Russian lucky loser Ivan Gakhov (6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-4).
Thiem, ranked No 199, won against Russian lucky loser Alexander Shevchenko (6-4, 6-2) and qualifier Sebastian Ofner (6-2, 3-6, 6-3) earlier in the tournament. He played at least the quarter-finals of his last three ATP events.
