Rotterdam Open: Sinner into final againt Medvedev after Griekspoor test

Italian Jannik Sinner advanced to the final of the Rotterdam Open by defeating Dutch wildcard Tallon Griekspoor 7-5, 7-6 (5) in what turned out to be a very close match at the Rotterdam Ahoy on Saturday.
Sinner, ranked No 14, will play Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 6 seed, for the title.
Sinner extended his current unbeaten run to seven matches following his title in Montpellier last week, and is now into his second career ATP 500 final. He won the first – at Washington, in 2021, where he became the first teenager to win a tournament at that level.
The 21-year-old Italian won against Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi (6-2, 3-6, 6-1), Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the top seed (6-4, 6-3) and Swiss Stan Wawrinka (6-1, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
Griekspoor is the first Dutchman to reach the semi-finals in Rotterdam for almost a decade – since Igor Sijsling in 2014. He could not, however, replicate the achievement of his former coach Raemon Sluiter by reaching the final – as the older man did back in 2003.
In the previous rounds of the Rotterdam tournament, Griekspoor, ranked No 61, won against Swede qualifier Mikael Ymer (7-6 (7), 7-5), German Alexander Zverev, the No 8 seed (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) and wildcard Gijs Brouwer (6-4, 6-4).
