Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 10 seed, reached the second round of the Monte-Carlo Masters by edging out Serb Laslo Djere 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) at Monte-Carlo Country Club on Sunday evening.
Hurkacz, ranked No 12, will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Sebastian Baez and Jack Draper next.
