Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 7 seed, defeated South African qualifier Lloyd Harris 7-6 (6), 6-4 to reach the last eight of the Atlanta Open.
Humbert, ranked No 38, will face the winner of the match between Thanasi Kokkinakis and second seed Alex De Minaur next.
The Frenchman edged out Constant Lestienne (4-6, 7-5, 7-5) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round, Harris, ranked No 204, won against Australian qualifier James Duckworth (3-6, 6-3, 6-2).
