Cincinnati Masters: Fritz makes last 16

American Taylor Fritz, the No 9 seed, beat Italian Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 7-6 (1) to move into the last 16 of the Cincinnati Masters at the Linder Tennis Family Center on Wednesday evening.

Fritz, ranked No 9, will play the winner of the match between Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 8 seed, and Serb qualifier Dusan Lajovic next.

The American won against Jiri Lehecka (7-6 (14), 6-2) in the previous round of the Cincy Open.

In the previous round of the Cincy Open, Sonego, ranked No 39, won against Russian qualifier Alexander Shevchenko (6-3, 3-6, 6-3).
