French qualifier Harold Mayot edged out Japanese Yosuke Watanuki 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the Metz Open at Arènes de Metz on Monday evening.
21-year-old Mayot, ranked No 176, will face Frenchman Gregoire Barrere next.
