American Robin Montgomery beat Spaniard Leyre Romero Gormaz 7-6 (5), 6-3 to advance to the second round of the Montevideo Open at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club.
Montgomery, ranked No 218, will face Argentinian Martina Capurro Taborda, the No 3 seed, next.
