Montreal Masters: 16th seed Khachanov beats wildcard Diallo to reach second round

Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 16 seed, advanced to the second round of the Montreal Masters by winning against Canadian wildcard Gabriel Diallo 6-4, 6-4 at Stade IGA on Tuesday.

Khachanov, ranked No 22, will play the winner of the match between American qualifier Mackenzie McDonald and Italian Matteo Arnaldi next.

The Russian has been struggling in recent weeks, winning just one match (first round win at Wimbledon) in his last four tournaments since the French Open.
