Tomljanovic defeats Volynets in Austin opening round
Ajla Tomljanovic battled past Katie Volynets in two tight sends on Monday in Austin. Tomljanovic will meet either Petra Kvitova or Jodie Burrage in the second round.

Australian wild card Ajla Tomljanovic reached the second round of the Austin Open by beating American Katie Volynets, the No 7 seed, 7-6 (3), 7-5 at the Westwood Country Club on Monday afternoon.
Tomljanovic, ranked No 111, will next face the winner of a match between wild card Petra Kvitova and Jodie Burrage next.
