Houston Open: Paul into semi-finals to face Brooksby

Top seed Tommy Paul won against qualifier Colton Smith 6-1, 7-6 (1) to reach the last four of the Houston Open at River Oaks Country Club on Friday.
Paul, ranked No 13, will face qualifier Jenson Brooksby in an all-American semi-final clash. With all eight players in the quarter-finals coming from the United States, an American player is guaranteed to win the title this week.
Paul edged out Chilean wildcard Cristian Garin (2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5)) in the previous round of the tournament.
Earlier in the week, Smith, ranked No 200, defeated Australian James Duckworth (6-2, 6-2) and wildcard Ethan Quinn (6-3, 6-4).
