Charleston Open: Anisimova upsets fourth seed Navarro to reach semis

Anisimova will play fellow American Sofia Kenin for a place in the final

Eighth seed Amanda Anisimova won against No 4 seed Emma Navarro 7-5, 7-6 (1) to move into the semi-finals of the Charleston Open at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Friday.

Anisimova, ranked No 16, will face fellow American Sofia Kenin next. With top seed Jessica Pegula also making the semis, three Americans have reached the last four this week.

Anisimova beat Russian Veronika Kudermetova (6-2, 6-2) and Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 10 seed (6-4, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the tournament.

Earlier in the week, Navarro, ranked No 11, defeated Hailey Baptiste (6-4, 6-3) and No 15 seed Ashlyn Krueger (4-6, 6-4, 6-2).
