Top seed Aryna Sabalenka defeated Belgian Elise Mertens 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open at the Porsche-Arena on Saturday.
Sabalenka, ranked No 1, will play the winner of the match between American Coco Gauff, the No 4 seed, and Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 5 seed, next.
Sabalenka is now unbeaten in seven matches, having won the title in Miami last month.
The Belarusian benefitted from the forfeit of Russian Anastasia Potapova in the previous round of the Stuttgart tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Mertens, ranked No 29, won against Belarusian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich (7-6 (3), 6-2) and Russian Diana Shnaider, the No 8 seed (6-2, 7-6 (5)).
