Rome Masters: Hurkacz moves into quarter-finals

Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 30 seed, edged out No 20 seed Jakub Mensik 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (5) to advance to the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters at the Foro Italico on Tuesday.
Hurkacz, ranked No 31, will play the winner of the match between American Tommy Paul, the No 11 seed, and Australian Alex de Minaur, the No 7 seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the Italian Open, the Pole defeated Spaniard Pedro Martinez Portero (6-1, 7-5) and American Marcos Giron (6-3, 1-6, 6-1).
Mensik, ranked No 21, won against Italian wildcard Matteo Gigante (7-6 (4), 7-5) and Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (6-4, 7-6 (2)) earlier in the tournament.
