Roland-Garros: Brooksby into second round in Paris for first time

American Jenson Brooksby advanced to the second round of Roland-Garros for the first time in his career by defeating Portuguese Jaime Faria 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in Paris on Sunday.

Brooksby, ranked No 165, had lost in the first round in both his previous main draw appearances in Paris. It is also the American’s first win in a Grand Slam since the 2023 Australian Open, following which he was off the tour due to injuries and then a suspension due to violation of anti-doping rules.

The Houston Open champion will face the winner of the match between Italian Luciano Darderi and American Sebastian Korda, the No 23 seed, next.
