Bucharest Open: Barrere ends Martinez run to make semi-finals

Gregoire Barrere edged out Pedro Martinez 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4 and will play the winner of the match between Cerundolo and Mariano Navone in the next round

French qualifier Gregoire Barrere edged out Spaniard Pedro Martinez, the No 8 seed, 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4 to reach the last four of the Bucharest Open at the National Tennis Centre.

Barrere, ranked No 128, will face the winner of the match between top seed Francisco Cerundolo and No 5 seed Mariano Navone next.

The Frenchman won against Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis (7-5, 6-3) and American Sebastian Korda, the No 3 seed (6-4, 6-4) ahead of his victory.

Earlier in the tournament, Martinez, ranked No 57, beat qualifier Carlos Taberner (6-1, 3-6, 6-3) and Serb Miomir Kecmanovic (7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3).
