Cerundolo overcomes Etcheverry in Santiago quarter-finals

Top seed Francisco Cerundolo edged out No 5 seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 to move into the last four of the Chile Open at the Club Universidad Católica de San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago de Chile on Friday afternoon.

Cerundolo, ranked No 26, will next play Serb Laslo Djere.

The Argentine previously knocked off German Yannick Hanfmann (6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (5)) in Santiago.

Earlier in the tournament, Etcheverry — ranked No 43 — defeated Frenchman Hugo Gaston (6-2, 6-3) and Chilean wildcard Cristian Garin (6-2, 6-4).
