Alcaraz gives signs of a comeback, without confirming them

Carlos Alcaraz’s name is back on the US Open and Cincinnati entry lists, offering the first quiet signs of his anticipated comeback. His strategic absence from Toronto suggests a carefully planned return, aiming for peak fitness in New York after a wrist injury sidelined him from major events.

Carlos Alcaraz’s name is back where it belongs. The Spaniard appears on the official US Open main-draw entry list published by the USTA on July 20, seeded to enter at No. 3 behind Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, ready – on paper – to defend the title he lifted a year ago. His name also sits on the entry list for the Cincinnati Open, the Masters 1000 that traditionally serves as the final tune-up before Flushing Meadows.

Neither entry is a formal announcement, and that matters. Alcaraz has been sidelined since damaging his wrist at the Barcelona Open in April, an injury that cost him the French Open, Wimbledon and, in the next weeks, the Canadian Open.

Yet the shape of these entries tells its own story. His absence from the Toronto list, set against his presence in Cincinnati, points to a carefully calibrated plan: skip the earlier hard-court week, protect the wrist, and arrive in Ohio with just enough match play to be sharp for New York.

That optimism, for now, rests entirely on inference. Alcaraz himself has said nothing publicly about his return. His last real signal came through an Instagram post in which he was filmed hitting at a deliberately low pace. No press conference, no statement, no target date. Just a caption under a short video: .”On the right path”.

His most recent public appearance had nothing to do with tennis. Alcaraz was seen showcasing the World Cup trophy before the final, soaking up the occasion rather than talking about his own comeback. Spain’s victory in that final may have left him craving that same feeling on the big stage.
