Generali Open: Baez into final after edging top seed Etcheverry

Sebastian Baez moved into the final of the Generali Open by edging out top seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-4 at Kitzbühel Tennis Club in Kitzbuhel on Friday afternoon.

Baez, ranked No 72, will face the winner of the match between Serb Laslo Djere, the No 5 seed, and Austrian wildcard Dominic Thiem next.

In the previous rounds of the Kitzbuhel tournament, Sebastian Baez won against Serb qualifier Hamad Medjedovic (6-4, 6-2), Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena, the No 6 seed (6-1, 6-2) and Slovak Alex Molcan (6-4, 6-3).

Etcheverry, ranked No 34, beat qualifier Guido Andreozzi (6-2, 6-2) and edged out Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
