Geneva Open: Opelka books spot in quarter-finals

American Reilly Opelka, the No 4 seed, beat Australian qualifier Christopher O’Connell 6-3, 7-5 to reach the last eight of the Geneva Open at Tennis Club de Genève, Parc des Eaux-Vives on Wednesday.

Opelka, ranked No 18, will face the winner of the next match between Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor and Swiss qualifier Johan Nikles in the quarter-finals.

O’Connell, ranked No 124, won against Goncalo Oliveira (7-6 (7-3), 6-4), Benjamin Hassan (7-6 (7-2), 6-4) and Spaniard Albert Ramos Vinolas (7-6 (7-5), 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
