Australian wildcard Nick Kyrgios beat Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta, the No 6 seed, 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the semi-finals of Halle at the Owl Arena/Gerry-Weber-Stadion on Friday afternoon.

Kyrgios, ranked No 65, will play the winner of the match between Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 5 seed, and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 4 seed, next.

The Australian won against German Daniel Altmaier (6-3, 7-5) and edged out Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the second seed (5-7, 6-2, 6-4) ahead of his victory.

In the previous rounds of the Halle Open, Carreno Busta, ranked No 19, won against Dane Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune (6-3, 7-6 (5)) and American Sebastian Korda (6-4, 0-6, 6-3).
