Indian Wells Masters: Schwartzman scores only second win since 2022 US Open

Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman scored a much-needed victory in the first round of the Indian Wells Masters, marking only the second win since the 2022 US Open for the former world No 8.

Now ranked No 38 in the world, Schwartzman ended his 2022 season with seven consecutive losses, including a third loss defeat at the US Open.

In 2023, he has continued to struggle, winning only one match (at the 2023 Australian Open) in six tournaments before coming to Indian Wells.

On Wednesday, at the Indian Wells Masters, the Argentine was too strong for his compatriot Federico Coria, winning 6-1, 6-2 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

His reward is a second round showdown against third seed Casper Ruud, of Norway.
