Japan Open: De Minaur books spot in quarter-finals, hands Schwartzman first-set bagel

Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 4 seed, won against Argentinian Diego Schwartzman 6-0, 7-5 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Japan Open at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Thursday night.

De Minaur, ranked No 13, will face the winner of the match between Chinese Zhizhen Zhang and Russian Aslan Karatsev next.

This is his first quarter-final in Tokyo in his fourth attempt.

The Australian edged out qualifier Jack Draper (4-6, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (1)) in the previous round of the Tokyo Open.

In the first round of the Tokyo Open, Schwartzman, ranked No 113, beat Francisco Cerundolo (6-4, 6-1).
