Marrakech Open: Darderi beats top seed Griekspoor to win second singles title
Darderi scores his first win over Griekspoor in three matches to claim his second ATP career singles title

Italian Luciano Darderi, the No 7 seed, defeated Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, the top seed, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4) to win the Marrakech Open tournament at Royal Tennis Club de Marrakech on Sunday.
This was his second ATP tour-level title after winning in Cordoba in 2024 and his first win over Griekspoor in three career meetings. The Italian had a slow start to the year, winning only two matches in his first eight ATP events before the turnaround this week.
“The past months were really difficult for me, but I fought every day for this moment. It is my second title. My first time in Marrakech, it’s an amazing place,” Darderi said as quoted by the ATP Tour website. “I’m very happy and I have to say thank you to all the Italians here and all the people watching. It is very nice to play with this atmosphere.”
The win will see him climb to No 48 in the new world rankings on Monday.
Ahead of his victory, Darderi, ranked No 57, beat American Tristan Boyer (6-4, 6-4), Frenchman Hugo Gaston (2-6, 6-2, 6-3), Vit Kopriva (7-5, 6-2) and Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena, the No 5 seed (6-3, 6-2).
Griekspoor, ranked No 37, beat Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta (7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-3), Italian Mattia Bellucci, the No 8 seed (6-3, 6-4) and Pole qualifier Kamil Majchrzak (7-5, 7-6 (3)) in the previous rounds of the Marrakech tournament.
