Italian Lorenzo Sonego reached the final of the Metz Open by winning against Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the second seed, 7-6 (5), 6-4 at Les Arènes de Metz on Saturday afternoon.
Sonego, ranked No 65, will face the winner of the match between Swiss qualifier Stan Wawrinka and Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 7 seed, next.
The Italian didn’t lose a set this week in the East of France. beat Russian Aslan Karatsev, the No 6 seed (7-5, 6-3), French wildcard Gilles Simon (7-6 (2), 6-4) and American Sebastian Korda.
Earlier in the tournament, Hurkacz, ranked No 10, defeated Austrian Dominic Thiem (6-3, 6-4) and Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (6-3, 6-2).
