Injured Alcaraz pulls out of Madrid and targets Rome return
The 21-year-old is ruled out due to the injury he suffered during Barcelona

World No 3 Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Mutua Madrid Open.
The Spaniard picked up an injury to the adductor during his defeat to Holger Rune in the final of the Barcelona Open last week.
That means his quest for a third Madrid title will be on hold for at least another year.
He told a press conference on Thursday that he was not too concerned about his current physical state, with a left hamstring also giving him some trouble recently, and suggested it would be a maximum of two weeks of recovery.
That means he is intending to play in Rome from May 7th. “My plan is to go to Rome. My mindset is to do everything it takes to be a 100 percent for Rome. I will do some tests at the beginning of next week just to see how it’s improved, and from that let’s see how it’s going to be the next days. My hope is to play in Rome. If not, I mean, next tournament is Roland Garros for me. So I will try to be on court as soon as possible,” the Spaniard told the media in Madrid.
Alcaraz said he is feeling confident enough in his game that he would not be too concerned even if he played the French Open without any warm-up events.
“If I don’t play Rome or if I don’t play any tournaments before Roland Garros, I mean, for me I don’t care about it. I just have the confidence, I know what is my level, I know what I have to do, you know, to play a good tennis, so just like that,” he added.
