Denmark’s Holger Rune has issued a statement following the departure of six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker from his coaching team.

On Tuesday, Becker announced that Rune and he were parting ways as he was unable to work and travel extensively with the world No 7. This announcement came soon after Severin Luthi confirmed that he was also parting ways with Rune.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Rune said after working with the same coach for 15 years (Lars Christensen), he had found it difficult to find a perfect fit with a new coach.

“As you know, I have been trying different coaching constellations the past 12 months. Since working with the same coach for 15 years, that is my whole tennis life, it’s not easy to find the perfect fit in the first try.
I have learned a lot and found out what is important for me to be able to feel good and at the same time develop as I want. I have big ambitions and big goals and I need people around me that have the same vision and people I can trust to reach my goals. I need people that knows me – who can be there all the time. This gives me comfort and happiness in a world with changing environments and conditions every week.”

Rune thanked Christensen, Becker and Luthi in his statement and said he would be announcing his new coach soon.

“I want to thank all the people involved in the process, Lars, Boris, Severin, I love you, and I am happy to shortly inform more about my final coaching set-up.”
