Fognini thrills home crowd with win over Kecmanovic in Rome

Italian wildcard Fabio Fognini followed up his win over Andy Murray with another fine victory, this time over Serb Miomir Kecmanovic, the No 30 seed, 6-3, 7-6 (6) as he advanced to the third round of the Rome Masters at the Foro Italico on Friday.

Fognini, ranked No 130, had joked he would struggle to recover after his win over Murray but, backed by a vociferous home crowd, he saw off Kecmanovic to make the third round.

He will play the winner of the match between French qualifier Arthur Fils and Dane Holger Rune, the No 7 seed, next.
