Rome Masters: Gaubas takes out Shapovalov to reach third round

Lithuanian qualifier Vilius Gaubas reached the third round of the Rome Masters by winning against Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 27 seed, 6-3, 6-4 at the Foro Italico in Roma on Friday evening.

Gaubas, ranked No 154, will play the winner of the match between Argentinian Camilo Ugo Carabelli and German Alexander Zverev, the second seed, next.

In the previous round of the Italian Open, the 20-year-old Lithuanian edged out Bosnian Damir Dzumhur (7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-4).
