Rune beats Gasquet to reach Caen exhibition final
The Danish teenager will play either Roberto Bautista Agut or David Goffin in the final
It still has nothing to do with his epic Rolex Paris Masters victory, but Dane Holger Rune continues to rack up victories on French soil. After winning his first exhibition tournament this weekend in Bourg-de-Péage, the new world No11 defeated Richard Gasquet 7-6, 6-1 in the semi-finals of the Caen Open on Tuesday evening. It was his first match in Normandy.
Gasquet was impressed by his opponent. “He has everything,” the veteran Frenchman said. “He knows how to attack, how to defend, how to go from defence to attack very quickly. He’s very intelligent on the court. He has everything that the greats have. He has a great future ahead of him.
Rune will face Roberto Bautista-Agut who David Goffin (6-3, 6-4) in Wednesday’s final (6:00 pm, CET).
