San Diego Open: Duckworth makes quarter-finals

James Duckworth defeated Mitchell Krueger 6-3, 7-6 (4) on Thursday night and will play the winner of the match between American Marcos Giron, the No 3 seed, and Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the next round

Australian James Duckworth, the No 7 seed, reached the quarter-finals of the San Diego Open by defeating American qualifier Mitchell Krueger 6-3, 7-6 (4) at the Barnes Tennis Centre on Thursday night.

Duckworth, ranked No 83, will play the winner of the match between American Marcos Giron, the No 3 seed, and Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry next.

The Australian won against Alexei Popyrin (7-5, 4-6, 6-1) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the San Diego, Krueger, ranked No 228, beat qualifier Christopher Eubanks (6-4, 6-4).
