San Diego Open: Nakashima makes semi-finals

Brandon Nakashima edged out Daniel Elahi Galan 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. He’ll play Australian Christopher O’Connell in the next round

American Brandon Nakashima, the No 5 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the San Diego Open by edging out Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at the Barnes Tennis Centre on Friday night.

Nakashima, ranked No 69, will play Australian Christopher O’Connell next.

Ahead of his victory, the 21-year-old American defeated wildcard Zachary Svajda (7-5, 7-6 (5)) and Denis Kudla (6-3, 6-4).

Galan, ranked No 75, won against Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler (6-3, 7-5) and edged out Spaniard Pedro Martinez, the No 4 seed (5-7, 6-1, 6-4).
