Sinner stretches Masters streak to 33, beating Medvedev in two days to reach Rome final
Jannik Sinner (No 1) saw off Daniil Medvedev (No 7) 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 to reach his sixth consecutive Masters 1000 final and a back-to-back Rome final. The Italian’s all-time Masters 1000 winning streak now stands at 33. Casper Ruud awaits on Sunday.

Top seed Jannik Sinner finally reached his sixth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 final and his second straight in Rome with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 win over Russian No. 7 seed Daniil Medvedev, the Italian completing the suspended semi-final on Campo Centrale and extending his record ATP Masters 1000 winning streak to 33 matches.
The 21 points played on Saturday were a study in how thin the margin had become. Sinner won 12, Medvedev nine. Every game went with serve. The Russian, who had become the first player to take a set off Sinner at this tournament when he won Friday’s second set 7-5, ran out of routes in the morning resumption – but only just.
The match resumed where it had stopped overnight, with Medvedev serving at 4-2 in the deciding set. Both players held cleanly through to 5-3 on Medvedev’s serve, where Sinner reached match point twice. The Russian saved the first with an ace and the second with a winning serve, holding for 5-4 and forcing the Italian to close it out himself.
Sinner – Ruud for the title
Sinner did, holding from the baseline despite a flurry of brilliant Medvedev defence on the way to converting his third match point on his own serve. “Too good,” Medvedev told him at the net.
The full match (2h34) remains the most demanding Sinner has played in months. He had been visibly tired in the third set on Friday, taking a medical timeout at 3-2 that drew Medvedev’s audible irritation with chair umpire Aurélie Tourte.
Sinner has now won 50 of his last 52 matches and 66 of his last 69 sets at Masters 1000 level. It is his 14th career Masters 1000 final, his 38th ATP final overall, and his back-to-back final at the Foro Italico after losing here last year to Carlos Alcaraz. He will face Casper Ruud in Sunday’s final.
