Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 3 seed, continued his late season surge on the ATP Tour with an upset win over world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz to move into the final of the Swiss Indoors in Basel on Saturday.

Auger-Aliassime dominated the match – winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 22 minutes and maintained his unbeaten record over the current world No 1 – improving to 3-0 lifetime against the 19-year-old Spaniard.

Having won back-to-back titles in Florence and Antwerp, the Canadian has now won his last 12 matches in a row. Auger-Aliassime has not lost his serve all week at the Halle Saint-Jacques in Basel and saved the only break point against his serve on Saturday.

Earlier in the week, the 22-year-old Canadian had defeated Swiss wildcard Marc-Andrea Huesler (6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4), Serb Miomir Kecmanovic (6-1, 6-0) and Kazakh Alexander Bublik (6-2, 6-3).

After 0-8 start in ATP Finals, Auger-Aliassime will be gunning for his fourth title from last 5 finals

Auger-Aliassime will meet either sixth seed Roberto Bautista Agut or Danish teen Holger Rune in Sunday’s final. The Canadian had lost the first 8 finals he reached on the ATP Tour but has gone 3-1 in 2022, winning the title in Rotterdam and finishing runner-up in Marseille prior to his Florene-Antwerp double in recent weeks.

The win also helps his cause for a spot in the season-ending ATP Finals with three spots still up for grabs. Auger-Aliassime is currently trailing only Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev among players who are still chasing a spot in Turin.
