Tennis couple Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina have announced that they are expecting their first child, a baby girl, in October.
The pair made the announcement on social media, posting a picture of themselves together with Monfils’ hand placed on Svitolina’s baby bump, saying, “With a heart full of love and happiness, we are delighted to announce that we are expecting a baby girl in October”, ending it with a heart emoji.
35-year-old Monfils and 27-year-old Svitolina announced their engagement in April 2021 and got married on July 16, 2021. This will be the first child for either player.
Monfils in Lyon next week while Svitolina is currently on a break from the tour
Monfils, a former world No 6 who is currently ranked 21st in the world, is competing at the ATP 250 event in Lyon next week while Svitolina has been on a break from the WTA Tour, citing the need to recover from a physically and mentally challenging period, which included the Russian invasion of her native country Ukraine.
A former world No 3, Svitolina is currently ranked 27th in the world and last played in Miami in March.
The couple have said their daughter is due to be born in October this year.
