Sinner ends Monfils’ run, awaits Paul in Toronto Masters semi-finals

Jannik Sinner withstood Gael Monfils in three sets to wrap up quarter-final competition in Toronto on Friday night. Tommy Paul is next up for Sinner.

Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 7 seed, beat Frenchman Gael Monfils 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the Toronto Masters at the Aviva Centre on Saturday night.

Sinner, ranked No 8, will face American Tommy Paul, the No 12 seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the 21-year-old Italian won against Matteo Berrettini (6-4, 6-3) and Andy Murray (W/O).

Monfils, ranked No 276, defeated American Christopher Eubanks (7-6 (3), 6-7 (4), 6-1), Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 4 seed (6-4, 6-3) and Australian lucky loser Aleksandar Vukic (6-4, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Canadian Open.
