The collaboration between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Goran Ivanisevic did not survive the summer. Although the two had started working together after the French Open, where the Greek player was eliminated in the second round, the current world No. 29 announced on social media this Thursday the end of this brief partnership with the Croatian.

“Working with Goran was a brief but intense experience and a truly valuable chapter in my journey. I’m thankful for the time, effort and energy he dedicated to me and my team. As we are now following our separate ways, I have only respect for Goran, not just for what he’s achieved in tennis, but also for who he is as a person. I wish him nothing but the very best moving forward.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas won only one match under Goran Ivanisevic, in his opening round at Halle against Luciano Darderi. He was then defeated in the next round by Alex Michelsen and lost in the first round at Wimbledon, retiring against Frenchman Valentin Royer.

Ivanisevic had criticized Tsitsipas in the media

The split doesn’t come as a major surprise following the strong comments Goran Ivanisevic made after Wimbledon. In an interview with CLAY, the Croatian harshly criticized the Greek player’s physical condition.

“Physically, he’s a disaster. I don’t understand how a player of his level can be so out of shape. He says he wants it, but he does nothing. I was shocked because I’ve never seen a player so poorly prepared. Even with my knee, I’m three times fitter than he is,” he said.

Stefanos Tsitsipas will now look to bounce back during the North American swing. He is set to play in the Toronto Masters 1000 next week.
