Why is Gael Monfils in the news?

On April 3, 2021, Monfils announced on social media that he and Elina Svitolina are engaged to be married. The pair had recently split up but Monfils and Svitolina both published photos on social media confirming that they are engaged.

The couple first announced they were together during the 2019 Australian Open, where the Frenchman showed up in the Ukrainian’s box for her matches. The pair were very public on social media and created a joint Instagram account, named “g.e.m.s life”, after their initials. They announced the end of their relationship in February 2021, before their surprise announcement in April.

Yes, Gaël Monfils has signed up for UTS4, the fourth version of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown, which is scheduled to be played on April 5-7 on red clay at the Mouratoglou Academy.
