Friday did not turn out to be a good day at the office for world No 1 Novak Djokovic. After his dreams of winning a Golden Slam were ended by Alexander Zverev in the men’s singles semi-finals in three sets, the Serb was also knocked out of the mixed doubles competition where he was partnering countrywoman Nina Stojanovic.

Djokovic/ Stoajnovic went down 7-6, 7-5 to Aslan Karatsev/ Elena Vesnina. The Serbs will now face off against the Australian team of John Peers/ Ashleigh Barty in the bronze medal play-off on Saturday.

Andrey Rublev/ Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova also reached the mixed doubles final. The pair scored a 5-7, 6-4, 13-11 win over Peers/ Barty to move into the final earlier in the day.
