World No 2 Daniil Medvedev scored a comfortable straight sets win over 28th seed Miomir Kecmanovic, of Serbia, to book his spot in the fourth round at Roland-Garros in Paris for the second year running.

The Russian, who had played only match on clay in 2022 (an opening round loss in Lyon last week) after a hernia surgery kept him off the court for the most part of the clay season, defeated Kecmanovic 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 49 minutes on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

Medvedev had never won a match at the French Open until last year when he went all the way to the quarter-finals. He is now through to the last 16 for the second year in a row with Saturday’s win.

In the fourth round on Monday, Medvedev will face either former US Open champion and former world No 3 Marin Cilic, seeded No 20 this year, or French wild card Gilles Simon, who is playing his final Roland-Garros before retiring at the end of the season.
