Nick Kyrgios has announced that he has been forced to withdraw from this month’s Ultimate Tennis Showdown event in Los Angeles. The highly-anticipated event is to make its LA debut between 21st and 23rd July, with ‘King Kyrgios’ – as is his UTS nickname – set to headline as one of the star attractions for the reinvented game format.

However, just three days before the event is due to start, Kyrgios has revealed via social media that the wrist injury that ruled him out of Wimbledon is not yet in a state where he can compete.

“I just want to let you know that I am still recovering and getting my wrist right to be back on the court soon,” the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up announced.

It has been a difficult year for the Australian, who has struggled with a number of different physical ailments that have essentially kept him off tour and away from competitive action all season.

Kyrgios’ reoccuring knee issues

A knee injury ruled him out of both the Australian Open and Roland-Garros, before a freak accident when responding to his mum’s car being stolen resulted in a foot injury that set back his return by several weeks.

In another blow, just as he had recovered from the foot and knee issues, an injury to his right wrist ruled Kyrgios out of Wimbledon and now also means he will miss the UTS event in LA.

However, there was a positive update from the Aussie to go along with the news that will no doubt disappoint his large legion of fans.

It appears that ‘King Kyrgios’ is still travelling to Los Angeles to attend UTS, and he will appear in some capacity at the event, as revealed in the second part of his social media post.

“Don’t worry though! I will still be coming to LA and the UTS event. Maybe I’ll coach… any suggestions?”
