Wimbledon: Medvedev moves into third round for the fourth time in a row

The Russian will play the winner of the match between American Marcos Giron and Hungarian Marton Fucsovics in the next round

Daniil Medvedev, the No 3 seed, scored a straight sets win over Frenchman Adrian Mannarino at Wimbledon to in a match that was carried over from Thursday night.

The Russian won 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 (5) to move into the third round at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Friday. Medvedev was leading 6-3, 6-3, 4-4 when play was stopped on Thursday.

The Russian, ranked No 3, avenged a loss to the Frenchman just last month in Halle on grass in the quarter-final round.

Medvedev will play the winner of the match between American Marcos Giron and Hungarian Marton Fucsovics for a place in the last 16. This is the fourth time in a row that Medvedev has reached the round of 32 at Wimbledon, his best performance being a fourth round finish in 2021.

The 27-year-old defeated wildcard Arthur Fery (7-5, 6-4, 6-3) earlier in the week

In the previous round of The Championships, Mannarino, ranked No 35, beat Russian Alexander Shevchenko (6-3, 6-3, 6-2).
