American Emma Navarro, the No 10 seed, advanced to the last 16 of Wimbledon by edging out No 17 seed Barbora Krejcikova 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Saturday.

As a result of Krejcikova’s defeat, it is now confirmed that there will be a new Wimbledon women’s singles champion in 2025.

“Part of you is telling yourself, ‘Just put a bunch of balls in the court, and that’s all you have to do.’ But then, she’s an amazing player, injuries or no injuries,” said the American, during her on-court interview.

“So that’s not good enough, and then you trick yourself into taking too much off the ball and not playing the way you want to play. Not an easy challenge, for sure.

“I was able to serve a bit better and gained a little bit of traction on my return games, and from the ground, just played a little bit stronger. I like to play scrappy, so I was able to play a few more scrappy points, get a few more balls back in the court.”

Earlier in the tournament, Krejcikova, ranked No 16, won against Filipino Alexandra Eala (3-6, 6-2, 6-1) and American Caroline Dolehide (6-4, 3-6, 6-2).
