Wimbledon: Tsurenko beats Bogdan in longest tiebreak in a Grand Slam women’s singles match in history

The Ukrainian will play American Jessica Pegula, the No 4 seed, in the next round

Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko edged out Romanian Ana Bogdan 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (18) to advance to the last 16 of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London.

Tsurenko, ranked No 60, will face American Jessica Pegula, the No 4 seed, next.

As per the ITF, the 20-18 win for Tsurenko was the longest tiebreak in a Grand Slam women’s singles match in history.

Ahead of her victory, the 34-year-old Ukrainian edged out American Claire Liu (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) and won against Katerina Siniakova (6-4, 6-1).

Bogdan, ranked No 57, defeated Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 15 seed (7-6 (1), 7-6 (4)) and American Alycia Parks (1-6, 6-3, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
