Budapest Open: Bondar books spot in quarter-finals

Anna Bondar edged out Simona Waltert 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 on Wednesday and will play Slovenian Tamara Zidansek in the next round

Hungarian Anna Bondar, the second seed, edged out Swiss Simona Waltert 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 to move into the quarter-finals of the Budapest Open at Római Tennis Academy on Wednesday.

Bondar, ranked No 52, will play Slovenian Tamara Zidansek next.

The Hungarian beat Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-2, 6-2) ahead of her victory.

In the previous round, Waltert, ranked No 119, benefited from the abandonment of Spaniard Cristina Bucsa (4-0).
