Catalonia Open: Cirstea beats Schmiedlova to book spot in quarter-finals
Sorana Cirstea defeated Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (7-5, 6-4) on Thursday and will now face American Catherine McNally, the No 7 seed.
Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the second seed, defeated Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (7-5, 6-4) to move into the quarter-finals of the Catalonia Open on Thursday.
Cirstea, ranked No 44, will now play against American Catherine McNally, the No 7 seed.
The 33-year-old Romanian won against Spanish wildcard Aliona Bolsova (7-5, 6-0) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Schmiedlova, ranked No 96, edged out Swede Mirjam Bjorklund (6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (1)).
